From Theory to Practice, from Knowledge to Innovation
WELCOME
As Chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance at Democritus University of Thrace, and on behalf of the Department’s entire academic, administrative and technical staff, I warmly welcome you to the Department’s official website (af.duth.gr).
The Department of Accounting and Finance is delighted to welcome its newly admitted students and congratulates them on their success in choosing Accounting and Finance as their preferred field of study. We wish them a productive and rewarding academic experience and encourage them to make the most of their years of study by developing a strong educational foundation, knowledge, skills and qualifications that will contribute to their personal development and future professional careers. The Department of Accounting and Finance is a well-established and long-standing academic department with a significant presence in Kavala. Further information about the curriculum is available through the relevant link.
The strong position of accounting and finance graduates in the labour market has been recognised for decades. Although technological developments have transformed and challenged many professions, they have not diminished the value of highly skilled and technically proficient graduates in our field. This is reflected in the high employment rates of our graduates in occupations directly related to their studies. Over the past three decades, hundreds of graduates from our Department have built successful careers and distinguished themselves professionally both in Greece and abroad. We are very proud of their achievements and confident that our future graduates will continue this tradition.
The Department participates in international academic networks that provide students with opportunities for mobility and study abroad. Likewise, students from partner institutions are welcomed to our Department, particularly during the spring semester.
The Department is supported by highly experienced and distinguished academic staff whose expertise extends beyond the core fields of Accounting and Finance to areas such as Business Administration, Statistics, Foreign Languages and other related disciplines. The Department also collaborates with dedicated and accomplished professionals and academics from the wider region, who contribute significantly to its successful academic development. Our administrative staff, centred around the Department Secretariat, also play a vital role in providing continuous and effective support to students throughout their studies.
One of the Department’s key strengths is its modern, accredited and high-quality curriculum, designed to provide students with specialised academic knowledge and skills in line with contemporary developments in Accounting and Finance. More specifically, the curriculum includes courses addressing current challenges, emerging trends and innovations in accounting and corporate financial management. Particular emphasis is also placed on the practical application of academic knowledge through courses that integrate information technologies and digital tools. These features contribute significantly to the attractiveness of the programme, as reflected in the consistently strong demand for admission.
The Department currently operates three officially established research laboratories. It also organises an annual scientific conference, contributes to the publication of a scientific journal and participates in a wide range of research projects. In recent years, the Department has also offered three postgraduate programmes, which collectively admit more than 60 students each year. Further information is available through the respective links.
We hope that the information provided on our website will be useful to you, and I encourage you to explore its various sections to learn more about the Department, its academic activities and the opportunities it offers.
As Chair of the Department, together with all my colleagues, I would like to assure you of our continued support throughout your academic journey and your subsequent professional development.
We sincerely wish you good health and every success in your studies.
