Short Description
The Accounting Laboratory is the successor to the Accounting Laboratory originally established by Decision No. 464/2.3.2016 of the President of the Technological Educational Institute of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Government Gazette B΄ 836), within the Department of Accounting and Finance of the School of Business Administration and Accounting of the former TEI of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
The Laboratory supports teaching and research activities in the following fields:
(a) Financial Accounting, Accounting Standardisation and Accounting Principles (b) Management Accounting and Cost Accounting (c) Accounting for Corporations, Groups of Companies and Multinational Enterprises (d) Taxation and Auditing (e) Accounting Information Systems (f) Public Sector and NGO Accounting (g) Specialised and Sectoral Accounting and Integrated Reporting
Mission The mission of the Laboratory is:
To support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching needs of the Department of Accounting and Finance, School of Economics and Management, Democritus University of Thrace, in areas falling within the Laboratory’s fields of activity. To develop research activities and conduct studies related to the Laboratory’s areas of expertise. To organise scientific lectures, workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences and other academic events; to produce publications and other scholarly outputs; and to invite internationally recognised Greek and foreign scholars and other distinguished individuals. To support doctoral and postdoctoral research in areas related to the Laboratory’s academic and research fields. To develop all forms of cooperation with other academic institutions, research centres and institutes in Greece and abroad, provided that their scientific objectives are aligned with, complementary to, or mutually supportive of those of the Laboratory, within a spirit of reciprocity and collaboration. To cooperate with public-sector bodies, local authorities, scientific and social organisations, business and industry stakeholders, as well as international organisations, with the aim of contributing to the preparation of proposals and the development of alternative approaches to issues falling within the Laboratory’s research interests. To provide services to individuals and organisations of any kind, in accordance with the provisions of Presidential Decree 159/1984 (Government Gazette A΄53).
To organise or co-organise educational, professional development and lifelong learning programmes or seminars in cooperation with: (a) the Center for Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning, (b) postgraduate study programmes, and (c) social, professional, educational, public or private-sector organisations. To attract funding for basic and applied research from national and international sources in scientific areas related to the Laboratory’s activities or to the specific fields of expertise of its members. To organise scientific lectures, workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences and other academic events, participate in scientific competitions and calls, and undertake scholarly publications and other academic outputs. To promote the achievements of the Laboratory and, more broadly, of the Department through networking activities, international collaborations, and the invitation of distinguished Greek and international scholars.
